The terp village of Britswert is located in the Greidhoeke of Friesland. The village collaborates extensively with the nearby village of Wiuwert, also known as 'de twa doarpen' (the two villages).
Both villages have a beautiful old church, but the church in Wiuwert is much more famous due to the mummies that can be seen in the crypt there.
The church in Britswert was once dedicated to Saint Nicholas but is now named after Saint George. Although there are no mummies to be seen in the church, it is interesting to visit this 12th-century house of worship, constructed from yellow Frisian bricks. The church is situated on the edge of the village along the Kleasterdyk.
The Saint George's Church is owned by Alde Fryske Tsjerken and is managed by a local committee.
