De Wolvetinte is a beautiful nature reserve near Aent Lieuwespolder. The local bird protection agency Fûgelûntwyk It Heidenskip works with various partners to ensure that the area remains an ideal habitat for waders and several species of ducks.
The open terrain attracts avocets, lapwings, little ringed plovers and oystercatchers, all of which breed in the area. Migratory birds and ruffs can also be seen here. The monument in the water depicts a roof ornament known in Friesland as a ‘ûleboard’. There is an interesting story behind it. Apparently, a farm known as De Wolvetinte farm, which once stood here, disappeared beneath the waves during a heavy storm in 1825. A small collection of archaeological finds can be seen at the newly built De Wolvetinte farm.
