After the German invasion in 1940, Yde Bouke Yntema had 'Hâld courage' (Keep courage) painted on the entrance gate to his farm. During the occupation, this farm served as a storage place for the resistance. On February 20, 1945, Yntema was arrested and executed with nine others.

As a resistance fighter, Yntema cooperated in arms transports, with his farm serving as a storage place for the weapons and ammunition. When the news came that a raid by the Sicherheitsdienst was expected, Yntema refused to go into hiding. At any moment his second child could be born and he wanted to be present. Ultimately, the baby would die immediately after birth. Fortunately, there was no raid.

When Yntema was warned a second time, he again refused to go into hiding. He didn't want to leave his wife alone. On February 20, 1945, the SD picked him up for interrogation at the SD stronghold Crackstate in Heerenveen. Despite the serious beatings, he did not reveal any information. He was executed with nine fellow sufferers. Yntema was buried in the cemetery in Hemelum. His son honored his father's uplifting text after the war. The text 'Hâld courage' has been applied again on the renewed fence.
