The fisherman’s barge LE50 was built in 1901 at the Lemmer shipyard Gebr. de Boer.
Until 1974, the ship was used for fishing on Lake IJssel. After that, it came into private hands. The special thing about the ship is that both the original appearance and decoration have been preserved during this period. In 1996, Stichting de Lemster Vuurtoren (the Lemmer Lighthouse Foundation) bought the LE50. After the lighthouse was handed over to the municipality, the name of the foundation was changed to Stichting de LE50 (the LE50 Foundation).
The aim is to preserve a part of Lemmer’s history and to actively enable the public to get acquainted with it. The foundation is also responsible for the maintenance of the ship. In the winter of 2011/2012, the LE50 was thoroughly renovated. Volunteers have made a great effort to restore the interior to its original condition.
