On April 6, 1945, five members of the Dutch Internal Forces and the Knokploeg Sneek/IJlst were executed and buried here behind the IJsselmeer dyke. The victims were Gerrit Vlietstra, Durk Dijkstra, Herre Winia, Jurjen Hoomans, Hendrik Huizinga.
Four men were taken from prison in Sneek and taken to the Eisbär radar station in Sondel. Gerrit Vlietstra was also locked up there. Execution commander Strobel asked for a suitable execution site where he was 'not looked at his hands'. The location on the IJsselmeer coast was also used as a practice shooting range for the German soldiers. The sounds of the execution wouldn't be very noticeable because of this.
Here the men were executed without any form of trial and without immediate cause. Initially the firing squad was silent about the execution and because of this it was unknown where the five men had been taken.
It was not until October 18, 1946, that the place of execution was announced during a trial by Richard Nitch, the deputy commander of the firing squad. The men were then reburied in their hometowns. In 1950 the monument was placed on the dike. This monument can be visited via the private property of Heaburgen 42, it is allowed to visit it.
