Take a look
The Grote Brekken (in Frisian Grutte Brekken) nature reserve is also known as Lemster Brekken. The reserve is on reclaimed land near the town of Lemmer and is accessed by a path. The land is wet here and the large reed beds are dotted with marsh plants. A special wall constructed under the supervision of the local Vogelwacht bird protection organisation serves as a habitat for bats and amphibians. Behind it there is a sand bank where sand martins and kingfishers can build their nests. The observation tower offers a wonderful view of migratory birds. In the winter wild ducks and geese arrive in large numbers. In the spring there are shorebirds. Nearby there is another large lake that can be viewed through a telescope from the Grote Brekken nature reserve.
