Take a look

The Hegewiersterfjild nature reserve near the village of Kimswerd is close to the Wadden Sea. This makes it an attractive breeding ground for waders and meadow birds.

Many black-tailed godwits, redshanks, oystercatchers and lapwings nest here in the spring. Common terns and shorebirds also come to this wetland area to raise their young. The wader and meadow bird populations are increasing every year. From the bird-watching hide you can get a great view of the colony of common terns and pied avocets. In the autumn, European wigeon and golden plovers provide an abundance of prey for peregrine falcons, while in the winter the area is a favourite roosting place for many species of geese, including barnacle and Egyptian geese.
