Every year, there are more of them, and now there are already over a hundred: the MarBoeien of 'recreatieschap Marrekrite' in the Frisian waters. Most of the yellow-blue buoys are located in the Waterland van Friesland, always in a special spot in the water. By mooring, that spot becomes entirely yours for a while. You're away from all the hustle and bustle, experiencing the peace and space around you. A source of inspiration that various poets have been inspired by.

Mooring at a MarBoei

Mooring at a MarBoei is easy as pie. You'll notice it by its distinctive blue and yellow colours and the large eye at the top. Mooring is a breeze: simply guide your mooring line through this eye and let out the line to the desired length before securing it to a bollard or cleat. Mooring at a MarBoei is much easier than at a jetty. You only need to secure one line, after all. The MarBoei, made of soft plastic, doesn't cause any issues if it's touched during mooring or unmooring.

Marrekrite Recreation Authority

The Marrekrite Recreation Authority in Friesland is responsible for the management and development of recreational areas on the water. They maintain about 34 kilometers of free mooring places in the midst of nature, known as 'Marrekriteplaatsen'. Watersports enthusiasts can moor their boats for free at these locations and stay overnight. Since 2013, they have also been managing the MarBoeien on the Frisian Lakes, now totaling around a hundred locations. It's highly recommended to moor at a MarBoei or Marrekrite jetty. You're guaranteed to enjoy the tranquility, the lapping water, the rustling wind, and if you're lucky, a beautiful sunrise or sunset.

Sail the MarBoeien Poetry Route

Navigate the route along the poetic anchorages and moor at the nine MarBoeien in Waterland van Friesland. Let yourself be inspired by nine poems from various (Frisian) poets. Take your time to enjoy the view and experience the peace and space on the water. The sailing route is about a hundred kilometers long and takes you along wonderful spots on the water.
