Sint Nicolaasga (or Sint Nyk as we say in Friesland) is located between the Tjeukemeer and Langweerder Wielen lakes, in a beautiful woodland setting. The annual Sint Nykster Merke market attracts many visitors each year. This three-day annual market starts on the first Thursday of September. The event is opened with a symbolic procession, including floats, Frisian show bands and marching bands. The oldest Catholic cemetery of Friesland can also be found in Sint Nicolaasga. Birch brackets, russulas, milk caps and fly mushrooms greet you cheerfully in the Wilhelmina-oard and Vegelin woods during the autumn months. Follow the narrow woodland paths, passing meadows where you can savour the smell of falling leaves. And that one particular toadstool, red with the white dots...
