Oudemirdumer Klif
The Oudemirdumer Klif (cliff at Oudemirdum) is of great geological value. The cliff-top viewing point is owned by the Natuurmonumenten association, which preserves natural and cultural heritage in the Netherlands. The viewing point is open to the public and offers magnificent views of Lake IJsselmeer. The cliff environment supports a rich variety of rare plants and mushrooms. Along the waterfront you can still find remnants of the old wooden seawall that once provided protection from the waves.
Mirnser Klif
The Mirnser Klif (cliff at Mirns) is used for recreational purposes. It is especially popular with kite surfers because the water here is very shallow. Kite flyers and paddlers also like to come here. Near the Mokkebank nature reserve, you can still see the remains of the wooden poles that protected the coast from the power of the waves.
Rode Klif (red cliff) at Lake IJsselmeer
This cliff is made of boulder clay and is named after the colour of the clay. Red boulder clay is found only in Gaasterland. The cliff is famous for being the site of the battle of Warns. The battle is commemorated by the large boulder. The inscription on the boulder, ‘Leaver dea as slaaf’ (better dead than a slave), speaks for itself.

The cliff at Oudemirdum is 6 metres high. It was formed during the last ice age but one when the land was pushed up by enormous glaciers that advanced from Scandinavia and deposited large boulders in Gaasterland.

Oudemirdum is a charming village located amidst the forests of Southwest Friesland in the Gaasterland region.
Fountain Church
The Fountain Church is a Dutch Reformed church in the charming little village of Oudemirdum. It was built in 1790 on the foundations of a 13th-century tuff stone church. The second nave on the north side of the church was added in 1926.
Jolderenbos
The Jolderenbos is one of the oldest forests of Gaasterland. The first trees were planted here more than 300 years ago!

If you set off from the Rijsterbos forest and walk in the direction of Lake IJsselmeer you will come to the cliff at Mirns. It is a place that attracts kite surfers, kite flyers and beach lovers. The cliff was formed during the last ice age but one.
Mirns Bell Tower
In the graveyard in the village of Mirns there is a bell tower with a hip roof. It was built in 1953, after an American bomber crashed into the old bell tower in 1943, killing everyone on board.
Mokkebank
De Mokkebank is het hele jaar in trek bij vogels. In de rietvelden kun je het baardmannetje en soms ook de roerdomp tegenkomen. Verder broeden er veel rietvogeltjes, zoals rietzangers, sprinkhaanzanger, kleine karekiet en ook de snor en blauwborst....

At the edge of Lake IJsselmeer there is a red cliff that is 10 metres high. It was formed during the last ice age but one when the land was pushed up by glaciers that advanced from Scandinavia. The forces exerted by the ice created hills in the landscape.
