Wandelronde Gaastmeer Heeg
Met deze wandelroute wandel je door een deel van het veen- en merengebied van Nationaal Landschap Zuidwest Fryslân rondom Gaastmeer en Heeg. Het kenmerkende van nationale landschappen is dat ze een unieke combinatie van cultuurhistorische en natuurlijke elementen hebben.
Ooit lag tussen het kleigebied en het stuwwallenlandschap een grote hoogveenkoepel, maar door het aanleggen van ontwatering en het winnen van turf kwam het land steeds lager te liggen. Stormen sloegen op deze plekken stukken land weg, waardoor kleine meertjes steeds groter werden. In dit waterrijke gebied wandel je afwisselend langs meren en poeltjes en open weidse gebieden. Deze prachtige route loopt deels over onverharde paden en door weiland. Waterdicht schoeisel wordt aanbevolen.
