Take a look
The village of Jorwert is an ancient mound village located in the triangle of Leeuwarden, Sneek, and Franeker. The hamlets Fûns, De Him, and Hesens are part of Jorwert.
Jorwert is situated in the heart of the earliest inhabited terp (artificial dwelling mound) area in Friesland. It has been demonstrated that, before the formation of the Middelzee, the clay region of Littenseradiel was directly connected to the peat area. The ancient Frisians adapted remarkably well to the new circumstances, transforming from peat farmers to clay farmers over time.
The highlight is the annual open-air theater in the notary garden. But also, be sure to visit Nijkleaster.
Nijkleaster stands for silence, reflection, and connection. It is a special place where you can retreat in peace for a breath of fresh air and quiet time. Simultaneously, it is a place where people come together in liturgy and conversation, silence and walks, enjoyment, and recreation.
Nijkleaster seeks new paths for faith and spirituality. In the Frisian countryside, we collectively search for personal, ecclesiastical, and societal renewal. We embark on a beautiful pilgrimage (after all, the journey is the destination) and warmly invite you to participate.
